Speaking of Les Gréchons, Stephen Tanzer notes: “..is more or less an extension of the grand crus of Corton… like a mini Corton-Charlemagne…” Indeed, Les Gréchons lies to the east of grand cru Corton-Renardes (just below the Bois de Corton) at an elevation between 900 and 1,200 which has become very favorable in Burgundy’s consistently hotter climate. The site’s chalky soils, rich in fossilized material, is noble indeed. The nose is abundantly floral and shows just the slightest hint of oak. The palate is rich and textured, which is reflective of its position on the hill of Corton. Flavors of white peach, citrus zest and a hint of honey are supported by a strong mineral core and balancing acidity. Easy to love right now, this premier cru will only gain in complexity over the next five to eight years. A steal for this level of White Burgundy. Limited.
