Petit & Bajan NV Brut Grand Cru “Promise" Champagne

I have been wanting to feature a Champagne from Petit & Bajan for some time, but there was always something or some other Champagne getting in the way.  Petit & Bajan is a small, family-run Champagne house that exemplifies the beauty of grower Champagne. Created by the marriage of Richard Petit and Véronique Bajan, this estate is blessed with two grand cru terroirs. Richard’s family has long cultivated Chardonnay in the chalky soils of Avize in the heart of the Cote de Blancs while Véronique’s family have been growers in Verzenay, home to some of best Pinot Noir in the Montagne de Reims. Together, they farm around seven acres of grand cru vineyards with a commitment to sustainable viticulture and respect for the land.  The nose is already enticing with aromas of sautéed pears, lemon curd, red raspberry and toasted brioche.  The vinous palate is full of energy and offers notes of dried apricots, more toasted brioche and a strong mineral vein running throughout the palate.  A discreet oxidative note (say like Jacques Selosse???) offers additional complexity and highlights the wine’s rich texture. Enjoy now or cellar for five or so years for additional complexity.
