Collection: Felsina, Rancia ~ The One and Only

As many of you know, Felsina is my favorite Tuscan winey - from any region of Tuscany. Rancia is usually my favorite wine of Tuscany in more vintages than not. Rancia runs circles around other Chianti Classicos and Brunellos costing three times as much, making it one of the greatest values in Italian wine - period. In terms of age-worthiness and complexity only the very best Brunello di Montalcinos can stand alongside Rancia after 15-30 years or more in the cellar. I just tasted the 2021 Rancia. It reminded me of the 2010 and 2013 Rancias at a similar stage - so utterly classic Rancia! I’m still enjoying the 1990 Rancia in my cellar, and I imagine the 2021 will age just as gloriously.

Also of note - this is the first vintage in which Rancia as moved up in designation from “Reserva” to “Gran Selezione.”

This bears repeating” “Two thousand twenty-one is the single greatest young vintage I have ever tasted in Chianti Classico. Period. Full stop. The 2021s are majestic wines endowed with striking aromatics, layered fruit and all the energy that is such a signature of the appellation.” - Antonio Galloni, Vinous.

"The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Rancia is the first vintage in which Rancia moves from Riserva to Gran Selezione. The 2021 marries power and finesse in the way only Rancia can. Black cherry, leather, game, spice, licorice, tobacco and grilled herbs are all finely knit in a brooding yet elegant Gran Selezione that delivers the goods. Superb. Drink 2026-2046.” - 95+ Antonio Galloni, Vinous
