Arterberry Maresh 2023 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir
SALE $29.99 - Reg. $33.50 Jim Arterberry's "Dundee Hills" bottling is comprised of mostly Weber and Maresh vineyard fruit and drinks more like a Pinot selling for $45 than for $30. The elegant yet lush Arterberry Maresh house style is on full display here and offers tangy blue and red fruits, Dundee Hills earthy notes and fantastic balance. This has the “energy” of the best early release 2023s. “Dynamic yet sleek, with brisk acidity framed by vibrant cherry, cranberry, green tea and dusky spice flavors that zip along the snappy finish. Drink through 2033” - 93 Wine Spectator

I Custodi 2023 Etna Bianco Aedes
This white from Mount Etna is so damn delicious! Close to 100% Carricante, this wine is at once rich and lush with apricot and nectarine fruit while pulsating with Etna’s volcanic minerality. I Custodi’s cellar master is long-time Etna guru Salvo Foti (formerly Benanti’s winemaker). Foti considers himself a bianchista (white wine lover) who prizes elegance and tension in his wines while allowing the volcanic spice to shine forth at the same time. Enjoy now and over the next few years with shellfish, prawns, halibut, swordfish, chicken or pork dishes. We love this wine.

I Custodi 2022 Etna Rosso Pistus
Comprised of organic Nerello Mascalese with a touch of Nerello Cappuccio, the Pistus is a lot of fun. Aromas of cool earth, leather and plums segue to flavors of strawberry, dark plum with a lashing of volcanic minerality all framed by silky tannins. This red drinks a little like a $35 Langhe Nebbiolo, but with more energy and vibrancy. A super deal.

Le Ragnaie 2022 'Troncone' Rosso di Toscana IGT
The name of the game here is purity. The essence of Sangiovese on full display; no makeup. Perhaps more high pitched than you might expect, this wine still has so much to offer with notes of red currants, wild cherries, blood orange, bay leaves, rose petals, and dusty earth. Just a delicious little drinker that hits the spot on a weeknight with pizza, red sauces, and, well, you get the point. Once labeled Chianti Colli Senesi (an appelations many producers in Montalcino us for vineyards marginally outside DOC(G) boundaries), "Troncone" comes from vines at the highest point on the Ragnaie Estate which is a gorgeous little amphitheater perched at 600 meters. -Lance's Pick

Yohan Lardy 2023 Moulin a Vent, Vielles Vignes de 1903
Yes, this wine is made from a tiny parcel of vines planted in 1903! As many of you know, we LOVE great Cru Beaujolais. 2023 is a probably the best vintage in Beaujolais since 2019. The 2023 Yohan Lardy V.V. de 1903 has beautiful fruit, food-friendly balancing acidity, soil transparency and great sense of energy. This wine has all the elements of great Moulin-a-Vent: soaring spice-filled aromatics, beautiful red and dark fruits, firm but the most silky tannins, and a soil signature that rounds out the complexity of this scintillating red wine. Enjoy with roast chicken, grilled sausages (or any pork dish for that matter), steak, vegetarian fare and so on now and over the next 12 years. We’ve now tasted quite a few 2023 Cru Beaujolais, and this is easily our favorite. Super-duper limited. Super-duper good. 98 Points - James Suckling

Delarche 2023 Pernand Vergelesse Blanc Les Combottes
Longtime readers of this newsletter know my affinity for Pernand-Vergelesse - both the reds and especially the whites. The beguiling and undeniable gout de terroir of great Pernand-Vergelesse is on full display in the Delarche Les Combottes (100% Chardonnay). The Les Combottes vineyard sits high up on the hill just slightly around the bend from the famous grand cru of Corton. This blessed site typically displays highly aromatic, mineral-driven wines and Delarche’s version is a perfect example of this chiseled style. Aromas of wet stones intermingle with scents of lime, green apple and baked pear. The linear palate expands with a little time in the glass with flavors that reprise the aromatics. The mid-palate shows off the baked pear component while a strong core of tangy mineral action runs through the entire wine to the stoney finish. As delicious and satisfying as this wine is now, the best is yet to come. Enjoy this special wine now and over the next seven to ten years.

Domaine de L'Enclos 2022 1er Cru Vau de Vey
The next Francois Raveneau? Well, thankfully not in popularity, demand, and pricing, but in terms of style, this is close as it comes. This wine is so similar in stylistic character to a bottle of Raveneau Chablis I had recently that I can hardly believe it. As is typical, the Raveneau was riper with an almost tropical fruit profile, but the textural richness that Raveneau lovers so adore is very present in this wine. The l’Enclos Vau de Vey is also more mineral-driven with a strong gout de terroir that reflects Vau de Vey so accurately. The purity, precision and power of this Chablis is really impressive - and exceptionally hard to find at anywhere near this price. This runs circles around negotiant Grand Cru chablis costing considerably more. Get it while you still can.

Domaine des Tilleuls (Philippe Livera) 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles
Damien Livera is at the helm of the fourth generation of Livera winemakers in Gevrey and has quickly established himself as one of the top young winemakers in the Côte de Nuits. Livera’s Les Evocelles is delicacy and intensity at once, with soaring floral and ultra-pure Pinot fruit aromatics. The silky palate offers a rich yet supple core of blue and red fruits with sneaky structure and outstanding balance, ensuring that it will age gracefully for15+ years. This wine is so delicious now for its fruit purity, but will become truly remarkable with time as its terroir expression continues to come into focus. Special and very limited.

Domaine de la Pépière 2023 Muscadet Les Gras Mouton
Over the years, Domaine de la Pepiere has been our most beloved and best selling Muscadet producer by far. The Pepiere Muscadets are stunning in their youth for their crystalline minerality, incredible freshness, and as scintillating partners with seafood, especially shellfish. The Cru wines also age exceptionally well. Les Gras Mouton, or “The Fat Sheep” comes from a south-facing hilltop site in the cru of Monnières-Saint Fiacre, where the vines range in age from 20 to 60 years. The site's gneiss-based soils, mixed with clay and amphibolite stones, distinguish this bottling from Pépière's other more granite-based Muscadets -overlaying its core of citric acidity and stony minerality with a lovely viscosity which adds a sense of richness to the Gras Moutons. Enjoy now and often through 2030.

Domaine de la Pépière 2023 Muscadet Clos des Briords Vieilles Vignes
Perhaps the most famous Muscadet on the planet. Uber minerality with striking saline like aromatics. Age it, drink it. Enjoy the incredible value. Extremely Limited

Vignobles Brisebarre 2017 Cuvée Amédée Vouvray Sec
We love it when a domaine cellars a wine until they believe it's ready to drink. But, vigneron Philippe Brisebarre subscribes to a "think before you do" mantra where you must stay true to the variety, vintage, and terroir. This 100% Chenin Blanc feels like it's just hitting the beginning of a very long drink zone. Aromatic as any Chenin I can remember this wine offers notes of pear, lemon, and white flowers. Loads of fleshy fruit are balanced by the typical core of minerality we love to see from Vouvray. Philippe claims this wine can age for 25 years but I don't have that kind of patience! - Lance's pick

Chateau Pradeaux 2019 Bandol Rouge, Provence, France
$44.89 bottle / $239.94($39.99) six-pack Fans of old-school Bandol take note- this is the real deal. This is not one of those gussied up, lipstick sporting, glossy juice-ball Bandols. 95% Mourvedre, the 2019 (great vintage in Provence) Bandol Rouge offers an ethereal nose and the promise of greatness with some additional bottle age. The palate is opulent, structured and balanced with dark fruit surrounded by notes of herbs de Provence, leather, wild game and a strong soil signature. The perfect food partner with cassoulet, garlicky lamb dishes and the like. Enjoy now with hearty fare, or better yet, through 2026-2045 for additional complexity. Awesome Bandol!

Sixteen years ago, I said that Vincent Paris was one of the rising stars of the Northern Rhone Valley issuing excellent Saint Joseph and Cornas. His star has fully risen in the years since. Along with wines of Pierre Gonon, August Clape, Frank Balthazar and Guillaume Gilles, these are some of the most traditionally made wines of the Northern Rhone valley. If you enjoy Northern Rhone Valley Syrah, or Syrah from anywhere, grab some these while you can. All are very limited.
Vincent Paris 2023 Cornas Granit 30
$42.99 bottle / $239.94($39.99) six-pack Yes, Cornas for under $40! We’ve been working with the Granit 30 for years and this is, hands down, the best vintage yet for this wine. “ The 2023 Cornas Granit 30 is exquisite, unwinding with alluring rose water, blood orange, black cherry, licorice and stemmy subtleties. Round and refreshing, the 2023 is shaping up to be an accessible Cornas that’s packed with remarkable energy and freshness all the way through to the finish. Drink through 2032.” - 90-92 Vinous

Vincent Paris 2023 Cornas Granit 60
“Juicy grapefruit, orange blossom, red plumb, fresh violet and stemmy nuances introduce the 2023 Cornas Granit 60. Rose petal and graphite add more complexity. Built around well-rounded tannins, the 2023 is a full-bodied, seductive Cornas that shines with outstanding purity, freshness and complexity. Drink 2027-2034.” - 92-94 Vinous

Raul Perez 2021 Bierzo Tinto Ultreia St. Jacques
And then there’s little gem, which is a real charmer: "The 2021 Ultreia 'St. Jacques' bottling from Raúl Pérez is yet another excellent wine from these very old vines. The wine is a Mencía-dominated field blend made from ancient vineyards, planted between 1900 and 1940, so even the “young vines” here are more than eighty years of age! The wine is made with a high percentage of whole clusters and aged in a mix of various-sized, old oak casks and puncheons, as well as some cement tanks. The 2021 St. Jacques comes in at 13.5 percent octane and delivers a refined aromatic constellation of cassis, pomegranate, tree bark, espresso, a lovely base of dark soil tones, discreet Mencía botanicals and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, complex and full-bodied, with impeccable focus and balance, a fine core of black fruit, excellent soil undertow and grip, buried tannins and a long, poised and classy finish. This is certainly approachable today, but will be even better if the tannins are allowed at least a handful of years to soften up further. It is an excellent and very elegant vintage for this bottling! 2024-2075. (Mar/Apr 2024)” - 94 points John Gilman, View From the Cellar / 93 Wine Advocate
